Modern Family Love Polls
There are two Modern Family Love Polls out there:
The first on Zap2it asking who is the best couple on Modern Family
Claire and Phil’s – their effort to keep things fresh despite the frustration of three teenage/pre-teen kids in their house is admirable.
Cam and Mitchell – Cam is the comedian in the Mitchell-Cameron duo and does he ever do it well, whether its a subtle “caught” look, a quick little quip or a flamboyant display of his dramatic self. And that, juxtaposed with Mitchell’s dry, down-to-earth disposition often makes for magic.
Jay and Gloria – Jay is just hilarious because he’s old and set in his ways and says inappropriate things while managing to always stay likable. Also, he’s got a hot (and slightly less old) wife with a funny accent who knows how to deliver a good line.
Haley and Dylan – the picture of young, dumb love.
The second on People asking which Modern Family Valentine date was the funniest:
Claire and Phil decided to break from their 17-year tradition — family-style food and cannolis at Fratelli’s — and meet up instead at a hotel for some risqué role-play.
Cam and Mitchell – at the local Great Shakes diner, they hilariously attempt to intervene at Manny’s love life.
Jay and Gloria – spend their Valentine’s Day at comedian David Brenner’s stand-up show.

ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ a freshman hit
A young man arrived at Ty Burrell‘s hotel room to stock the minibar and immediately recognized the co-star of the ABC comedy “Modern Family.”
He loved the show.
Thanks, Burrell replied. The man went on to quietly describe how his family gathered each week to watch “Modern Family” together, and because of those group viewings, he was getting to know his younger siblings better.
“I know we’re not curing cancer,” said Burrell, who portrays the earnest goofball dad Phil Dunphy, “but it feels nice to see people affected by the show.”
“Modern Family” is the most critically acclaimed and popular new comedy of the TV season, the centerpiece of ABC’s Wednesday lineup and already renewed for a second season. Not only does it fulfill a comedy’s central mission — provide genuine laughs — it nudges preconceptions and isn’t afraid to show some heart amid a sea of snark and irony on television.
More than heart was on display one recent evening when “Modern Family” commandeered a Los Angeles hotel lobby to shoot some scenes. Hoots and hollers from crew members alerted those whose heads were turned the wrong way that they had missed actress Julie Bowen streaking across a room clad only in a bodysuit.
Bowen, who portrays Claire Dunphy, was about to film a scene in which she’s supposed to be naked underneath a trench coat. You’ll just have to watch the episode that airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST to find out why.

Modern Family not a roaring ratings success? (In New-Zealand)
TV’s hottest new comedy, Modern Family, debuted last night on TV3 with only 4.4% of Kiwis tuning in (11.4% share). In the coveted 18-49 demographic, Modern Family grabbed just 6.3% and a 17.9% share. Sunday and the movie Enchanted took in the bulk of viewers.
So why the low numbers? Could viewer downloads be linked to the low ratings, or was this type of rating always to be expected on a Sunday night slot on TV3?
Come on New-Zealand, you can do better!

“Glee” Tops Golden Globes
2 new kids to the class “Glee” and “Modern Family” were the most talked about shows in the Best Series: Comedy or Musical category. It was slightly uncommon to see 2 brand new shows midway into their first season nominated but the strength of both shows were undeniable.
“Glee” had indeed won the award and an ecstatic cast led by their captain Ryan Murphy received the award with class and gratefulness.
Congrats to Glee and good luck to Modern Family next time.

Modern Family: ‘Up All Night’ Preview
Modern Family returns on January 6 with a brand-new episode called “Up All Night.”
The comedy opens 2010 with guest star Benjamin Bratt of Law & Order fame, who plays Manny’s father Javier Delgado. After he arrives in town, Manny begins to stay up all night, which causes his mother Gloria much grief when she realizes what’s going on.
Elsewhere, Claire is forced to get her husband Phil emergency treatment when a bout of kidney stones hits him, and Mitchell and Cameron have a difficult time training Lily to sleep.

Fox Drops the ‘American Idol’ Bomb on ‘Modern Family’
Fox has decided to aim a missile directly at heart of ABC’s young comedy hit “Modern Family.”
The network Friday confirmed that it will move new drama “Human Target” from its originally announced 9 p.m. Wednesday time slot to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. Its replacement: The “American Idol” results show, which had been set to air at 8 p.m. Wednesdays.
The shift could make it tougher for “Modern Family” — which is produced by Fox sibling 20th Century Fox TV– to gain momentum in the winter. The same is true for ABC’s “Cougar Town”.

Familiar Faces in Fresh Formulas
What seemed in early fall a rare outbreak of inspired television writing has in recent months become something rarer—not an epidemic, exactly, but a season impressively stocked with creations drenched in wit and enterprise, all unmistakably reflective of a drive toward formula busting. These things are, of course, always relative. In television these days, one quality hit a season—especially in the impossibly snare-infested comedy genre—seems a lot; two is like breaking the bank.
Yet we’re now finishing a television year that has seen both the emergence of ABC’s uproarious“Modern Family” and its less dazzling but wonderfully mordant lead-in, “The Middle,” about another kind of modern family—a brew of consistent charm and character with a bracing hint of nightmarish reality underlying its sitcom fun. Add to these the most unexpected gem of all—NBC’s “Community,” a satire set in the unlikely precincts of a community college. Its creator, Dan Harmon, was, by his own account, inspired by the semester he once spent at one in pursuit of an effort to strengthen ties with his girlfriend. That relationship didn’t work out in the end, but, happily, the same can’t be said of this whip-smart series about an improbably compelling band of adults taking classes at a sunny academic hell called Greendale Community College.
These were comedies that lit out for new territory and that delivered, at least, persuasive approximations thereof. Of none was this truer than that creation of old “Frasier” hands Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, “Modern Family”—a hugely ambitious, hilarious and royally self-assured enterprise involving three family-connected couples. So seductive are each of these portraits, it’s become clear as the series runs on, that the show’s only problem is finding a way to fit all of them, and their delectable situations, into a satisfying share of what is, after all, only a half-hour format.
