‘Modern Family’ couple Cam and Mitchell will finally kiss

When Modern Family returns for its new season this fall, gay couple – and parents to the adorable Lily – Cameron (Eric Stonestreet, left) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson, right) will finally smooch, much to the relief of some fans.
“We’ve had an episode planned for a long time that dealt with that subject of (their being affectionate),” Levitan tells E!.

‘Modern Family’ to be honored at GLSEN’s Respect Awards
It’s just been announced that the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) will honor ABC’s Modern Family at the Respect Awards in Los Angeles on Oct. 8.
The breakout comedy recently received 15 Emmy nominations and is being recognized for portraying positive images and storylines that reflect a diverse America – including the depiction of a family headed by a gay couple.

‘Modern Family’s’ Cameron and Mitchell: TV’s Best Couple

Pop Eater has an article on TV’s best couple Cam and Mitch. Here is some of what they have to say:
In fact, we’re willing to argue that the lovable gay duo, played by Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, is the very best on the small screen right now.
Like all good couples, Cameron and Mitchell love and support one another. They may not make sense on paper — Cameron is flamboyant and outrageous, while Mitchell is more of a straight man (no pun intended) — but they’ve found a working balance between one another that gets them through even the most dire and embarrassing situations — like, you know, when Cameron decides that he wants to dress up like a clown, or when Mitchell wants to quit his job. As shown in the clip below, it all evens out eventually.
So, here’s to Cameron and Mitchell, the best — not to mention funniest — couple on television, who every Wednesday night make us more than happy to be part of their family.

Modern Family Gay Couple and CNN
CNN has an article about gay characters on prime time TV, and of course they talked to our favorite gay couple from Modern Family. Here are some of the things Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet had to say:
“The opportunity to play not only a well developed gay character, but a dad, a son and brother was really appealing to me. … I chose to play him very close to myself and I think that truthfulness was appealing to the creators,” Ferguson told CNN.
“As a gay man and as someone who is an advocate for equality, truthfulness and fairness, I want to see more gay roles go to gay actors,” Ferguson said in an e-mail. “But then on the flip side, as an actor, I want to still be given the opportunity to play roles that are straight.”
“Jesse and I … get so many compliments from gay couples and lesbian couples that want to introduce us to their kids and thank us for representing them on TV for the first time,” Stonestreet told Behar, from CNN.
But still, “Modern Family” isn’t hitting viewers over the head with Cameron and Mitchell’s physical intimacy.
“We’re the perfect show to just build it in naturally, not draw a bunch of attention to it,” Stonestreet said.
For Ferguson, it’s a non-issue.
“I want the viewers to know Mitchell and Cameron’s sex and love life is just fine,” Ferguson wrote. “They also have regular bowel movements, but that is something you don’t see either.”

‘Modern Family’ actors who play gay couple dish on real life

USA Today has an interview with Eric Stonestreet, 38, the flashy and affectionate Lion King-loving Cameron Tucker, who moonlights as Fizbo the clown and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 34, his longtime partner, the tightly wound and Fizbo-loathing lawyer Mitchell Pritchett.
Here are some of the highlights from the interview with the one of the most high-profile gay couples on prime time:
Ferguson: “He has this very Southern personality. He’s always very chatty with people, and he gets very emotional. It’s very sweet. I call him Pollyanna, basically.”
Stonestreet: “You do make fun of me, but it’s OK. Jesse is constantly using the bathroom in his trailer and telling everyone about it. Always announcing to the set and to the crew (when he has finished). I never once go to the bathroom in the trailer! It’s the worst place in the world to go to the bathroom.”
“Jesse and I are going to be friends forever. This show has put us together,” Stonestreet says.
Stonestreet is straight, and also single, in real life. Being on one of prime time’s hits hasn’t exactly been a boon to his dating life.
“To meet from the ground up a girl is difficult. Being introduced by friends is a little easier,” he says. “I never want to seem embarrassed or ashamed that I’m playing a gay person. So I would never want to be like, ‘Hey, I’m not gay.’ ”
Ironically, Ferguson says, “we were finding when we were going out, especially at the beginning of the show, that a lot of men were hitting on Eric and a lot of women were approaching me.”

Eric Stonestreet – “I’m single and I’m available”
The NY Post has an interview with Eric Stonestreet, Cam from Modern Family. In the interview he talks about the women of NY city, admiring what he calls their “directness” and “honesty.”, and stating:
“I’m single and I’m available,” he announces.
“Maybe The Post could find me the lady of my dreams. I’d be happy to be bicoastal. That’s bi-coastal, not bisexual!”
He also talked about his partner on the show, Ferguson:
“He’s gay and I’m straight and we have fun with that,” Stonestreet says. “After I got the part, we decided to meet for coffee and get to know each other. In the middle of it, we realized it was Valentine’s Day and we were surrounded by lovers! That was a funny way to start off.”

Advocate.com has an interview with the man who introducing the term “moon landing” to popular culture Eric Stonestreet. Here is the highlights from the interview:
Advocate.com: First of all, thanks for introducing the term “moon landing” to popular culture. What was it like to touch bare butt cheeks with Ed O’Neill?
Eric Stonestreet: [Laughs] I tweeted the day that episode aired that if you set goals, work hard, and always believe in yourself, you too can touch butts with a TV icon someday. It was blurred out on TV, but we really did touch butts. He was like, “You fine with this?” I was like, “I’m fine with it. Are you fine with it?” And he was like, “Yeah, let’s do this!” So we touched butts, and it was great.
Twitter obviously makes you easily accessible to fans. What kind of feedback have you gotten from gay viewers about Modern Family?
The response has been overwhelmingly positive. I had prepared myself that people might think Cameron was too flamboyant, too broad, or too stereotypical, but we’ve always felt we take it to that line but then twist it a bit. Gay couples have approached me at the Grove in Los Angeles just to say “thank you.” At Starbucks I was approached by two women pushing a stroller who said, “We’d like to introduce you to our baby.” I’ve been blown away, because I was expecting a little bit more blowback, if you will, than what we’ve received from the gay community and even from people who are opposed to gay rights.
Have you learned anything about gay people by playing Cameron?
Well, I’ve been surrounded by gay people my whole life — I grew up with a gay cousin, I went to Kansas State University and knew a lot of gay people in the theater department — so it’s not like I’m all of a sudden immersed in the gay community for the first time. But in this particular case, what I’m learning is being learned off-set with the great feedback I’m getting. I’m seeing how prideful and appreciative the gay community has been of the fact that we’re playing these characters honestly and without sensationalizing them. Cameron’s a dramatic, passionate person, but there’s a truth to the character. I look to myself for the character because I’m a dramatic, passionate person too, and that has nothing to do with my sexuality.
Was it a conscious decision not to show any physical affection between Cameron and Mitchell so as to make a gay relationship more palatable for more conservative viewers?
People always ask me why there’s not more affection on the show, but these guys are elbow-deep in raising a baby, so affection gets shoved down the list. That happens in straight relationships too. Talk to any guy with a newborn baby, ask him how often he’s getting some action, and he’ll fill you in.
Glee stole some of Modern Family’s thunder at those award shows.
Yeah, we were “whatever” with the Golden Globes, but we did want to win the SAG Award. Good for Glee, but hopefully we’ll go at it again next year. But, you know, this year I was disappointedModern Family didn’t get a SAG Award, and exactly one year ago this week I was pissed because I couldn’t get an audition for Modern Family, so my year has been great.

Another interview with Eric Stonestreet, from Modern Family, this time from Parade. Here are some of the Q&A:
Stretching his improv chops.
“We always get a couple passes where we just get to play and have fun. Inevitably some of those things make it into the shows. And then we always get to improvise a bit during the interviews with the camera. But, for the most part, it is 100% the words of our brilliant writers.”
Nothing but funny business.
“The most important thing for me as an actor playing a character is to make you laugh. That’s my No. 1 goal. I wouldn’t be in this business and doing what I do if I didn’t have the deep, deep need to make people laugh, which is what I enjoy the most.”
Making a gay couple “modern.”
“It’s an opportunity to give people a take on what they think of as gay parents and make them understand that the love and support of a child is the first thing, and it really doesn’t matter if it’s two moms or two dads. Bringing up a child in a loving relationship is the most important thing. I think it’s great that people are getting exposed to that and just to see the focus isn’t on the fact that Mitchell and Cameron are gay, the focus is on the fact that it’s hard raising a baby. It’s tiresome, it’s challenging and these two people happen to be funny people that will see things on the lighter side and have a good time doing it.”
