‘Modern Family’ – ‘Moon Landing’ Highlights

Modern Family moon landing

“Do people want their real estate advice from someone who leads, or someone who follows? I’m bettin’ these babies (points to mustache) are coming back in a big way. Buy low, sell high. People are going to see this and say, ‘That guy’s high.’” – Phil

We had a great night last night, and here are some of the highlights from reviews of ‘Modern Family’ – ‘Moon Landing’:

From TVsquad:
Sometimes I wonder if I could just write up a review of ‘Modern Family’ by listing all of the great quotes that come out of this show. Line for line, this has to be one of the cleverest series on television today. Even the episode title, ‘Moon Landing,’ recalls a great moment.

From EW:
Could last night’s episode of Modern Family been any funnier? I mean, I may as well have transcribed the entire episode, because every line had me practically running to my own Porta-Potty.

Modern Family Moon Landing

Highlights from CliqueClack:

  • Luke imaging the cool school made of recycled bottles.
  • “I can’t imagine you working.” – Luke, to his mom
“Luke, that is very offensive to women. Your mom works very hard. It’s just now she works for us.” – Phil
  • “I don’t take kindly when someone Tom Selleck’s my park bench.” – Phil
  • “What’s Jägermiester?”- Alex
“Well, um, you know when in a fairy tale there’s always a potion that makes the princess fall asleep and then the guys start kissing her? This is like that, except you don’t wake up in a castle, you wake up in a frat house with a bad reputation.” – Phil
  • Say Anything, Dylan. And please, stop talking. You’re making the generation gap even more embarrassing for Phil.

The Academy Award-nominated English actress, Minnie Driver, drops by to play Valerie, an old friend of Julie Bowen’s character Claire.
When Valerie pays a visit to Claire’s home, she’s not only very different than how Claire remembers her, but her presence also leaves Claire feeling less than wonderful about herself.
Elsewhere, Gloria gets a little legal help from Mitchell, while Jay has to deal with an odd experience that occurs in the locker room one day when he and Cameron meet up to play some racquetball.

‘Modern Family’ makes Sofia Vergara famous after 20 years

The NY Post has an interview with Sofia Vergara; Here are some of the highlights:

‘Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara grew up hating her first name.

“The only person I knew who had that name was my great aunt — and she was old,” said Vergara.

“So, for me, my name was like an old lady.”

Now, plenty of young people are named Sofia in her home country, Colombia, and evidently the 37-year-old beauty had something to do with that.

“Yeah, I became very popular,” she said. “I’ve been working for 20 years!” she adds, like that explains everything.

As the devoted mom to precocious Manny (Rico Rodgriguez) and the trophy wife of Jay (Ed O’Neill of “Married with Children“), she makes Gloria sexy, smart, funny and sweet — no easy job in a medium used to turning Spanish-speaking women into one-dimensional Charos.

She is shocked it all worked.

“I didn’t think people were going to like her because she looks like a gold digger,” she said.

“It’s this young woman with an older guy. I thought, ‘They’re going to hate her!’ But then I started understanding more of the character, and I love her.”

But Vergara’s sharp ear failed her spectacularly during a recent appearance on “The View.”

On the show, she was asked about being a young-looking mom. (In real life, she’s the divorced mother of a 17-year-old son, Manolo.)

Vergara joked, “I was 13. I was raped.”

The line sparked criticism, even outrage, online.

“With this accent I’m trying to do jokes on live TV? I mean, of course something’s going to come out wrong,” she said, sighing.
