‘Modern Family,’ ‘Glee,’ ‘Breaking Bad’ lead TV critics’ nominees
“Modern Family” and “Glee” will be duking it out at another awards show later this summer.
The two first-year shows are among the leading nominees for the 2010 Television Critics Association Awards, which were announced Thursday (June 3). They’ll also be competing head-to-head in every category in which they’re nominated: Program of the year, outstanding comedy series, outstanding new series and the individual comedy award.
“Modern Family” has five nominations total, while “Glee” has four; “Family’s” Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet were both nominated for individual achievement in comedy, while Jane Lynch is the sole “Glee” representative in the category.

Pondering an Emmy youth movement
The Primetime Emmys have no shortage of awards categories, yet young performers might not be getting the recognition they deserve — or that the Emmys themselves could benefit from.
There’s nothing preventing young talent from receiving supporting or even lead noms for primetime dramas and comedies, but no existing category specifically guarantees such kudos. That may not have mattered so much in the past, but with young viewership a priority for nets and cablers, some would argue it’s time to consider modifying Emmy rules to acknowledge this increasingly powerful demographic.
Thesps once referred to as juveniles and ingenues are acknowledged by the Daytime Emmys, which hands out statuettes for best younger actor and actress. On primetime, actors seemingly worthy of such recognition include Mark Indelicato (Justin, the flamboyant nephew on ABC’s “Ugly Betty”), Rico Rodriguez (Manny, Ed O’Neill’s deadpan stepson on ABC’s “Modern Family”) and Keir Gilchrist (Toni Collette’s gay son on Showtime’s “United States of Tara”). Even quite a few cast members of “Glee” would qualify if the Daytime Emmys’ cutoff age of 25 were applied.

Modern Family High Ratings – Again
“Modern Family” (9:00-9:30 p.m.)
Against “Idol” and the start of the NBA Conference Finals Game at 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Modern Family” first-season finale built sharply on its lead-in (+2.5 million viewers/+68% in AD18-49) to once again finish as the definitive No. 1 scripted show in its time slot in Adults 18-49, pacing 27% ahead of CBS’ “Criminal Minds” (4.2/12 vs. 3.3/9). In fact, the hit ABC comedy qualified as Wednesday’s No. 1 scripted TV program for its 12th consecutive original telecast in the key young adult sales demo. Essentially matching its record-setting young adult number from the prior week, “Modern Family” generated the series’ second-largest audience (10.1 million) since January (slightly behind only last week, best since 1/6/10) and posted its second-highest-ever rating among Adults 18-49 (pacing within one-tenth of a rating point of the prior week’s series-best).

Spoilers for MODERN FAMILY
Any scoop on what’s in store for my favorite [MODERN] FAMILY as the season comes to a [tear] end? — Maya
The TV Addict: If this were any other show, we’d tease the fantastic May 19th season ender by revealing that… [cue ominous music]… nothing will ever be the same for America’s funniest family thanks to an unexpected intruder in Mitchell and Cam’s humble abode and a philandering Phil which culminates in a fight between the Dunphey/Pritchett clan that almost teas them apart. But since this isn’t a very special episode of LAW & ORDER, we’ll simply say the intruder is a bird, Phil is just being Phil, and America’s favorite family ends the season exactly how it started, on a high note.
