Of course FOX easily won another Wednesday night  as American Idol cruised at 9pm.  Still  with a 7.5 adults 18-49 rating, Idol was down 12% versus last Wednesday, but FOX notes Idol retained 96% of the adults 18-49 audience from the comparable night in 2009.

Even against Idol, ABC’s comedy block held up.  Modern Family was up 9% versus last week to a 3.7 adults 18-49 rating and with a 2.6 rating in adults 18-49, Cougar Town was up 13%.

Modern Family to Jump Space and Time à la Lost (or Maybe Just Go to Hawaii)

March 11, 2010 by · 2 Comments

The Modern Family cast is in Hawaii right this second, filming their big “family vacation” episode.

E-Online just met up with the whole Modern Family cast and creator, and you aren’t going to believe this:

“What we’re trying to do is plant several modern families in several different times and then jump all around,” executive producer Steve Levitan told me. “And then we have a fully underwater episode, too. We’re really gonna embrace it. Why not?”

Clearly, he’s kidding. But so great that he’s a Lost fan! Levitan, who tweeted that this picture was “a good Hawaiian omen for our first day of shooting,” also fesses up his real motivations for taking the cast to Hawaii. “We’re just gonna try to just live up to the Brady Bunch Hawaii episode. It’s not a ratings ploy. Frankly, I’m tired and wanted to go to Hawaii.”

Modern Family’s Nolan Gould Interview

Nolan Gould, the kid actor from Modern Family, was interveiwed for Portrait Magazine; here are some of the highlights:

What’s your character Luke like?
He gets no respect from the writers! They’re always thinking of new things for him to do and most people would think the things he does are stupid, but Luke thinks its genius! He’s an average kid, but he’s sweet inside!
Sounds like a fun character!
Oh yeah! He’s fun to play!

Which has been your favourite episode so far and why?
My favourite episode was Fisbo because I got to ride on a zip line, go on a rock-wall…I’m afraid of heights but I love rock-walls! After shooting the episode, I said we should have an after party there, and everyone loved the idea!

That’s a lot of stunts!!
Yeah, but I’ve taken a stunt class before, so I was prepared. I also do rappelling for fun, so I could do the rock wall.

‘Modern Family’s’ Julie Bowen heads to Hawaii, but not for ‘Lost’

The cast of “MF” will travel to Maui to film an episode in about 10 days.

While there, it would be pretty convenient for Julie Bowen to just pop on over to “Lost” and film a return appearance as Jack’s (Matthew Fox) ex-wife. Perhaps Julie’s “Lost” character could shed a little light on this whole Jack-has-a-teenage-kid storyline? See the video below.

And here is Ty Burrell who is talking about Julie:

‘Modern Family’ Rating

February 19, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

With hard competition from the Olympics and Idol, Modern Family reruns did well:
“Modern Family” at 8 (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall) and wrapping with “Cougar Town” at 10:30 p.m. (1.1/3 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall). Outside of the 8 p.m. “Modern” delivery, the best numbers came with the regularly scheduled episodes of “The Middle” at 8:30 p.m. (1.7/5 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) and “Modern Family” at 9 (1.7/4 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall).

The interesting news of that night was of course that after six years, “American Idol’s” amazing winning streak is over – NBC’s Winter Olympics finished ahead of the Fox.

MODERN FAMILY: ALMOST PERFECT

January 26, 2010 by · 4 Comments

Television Without Pity reviewed Modern Family and criticized Julie Bowen’s character Claire – What do you think?

As Modern Family’s fantastic first season has progressed, it’s just gotten better and funnier, and its characters have become more and more likable with each episode as the show has quickly grown into one of the best on television. With one glaring exception — Julie Bowen’s character Claire. While all the characters on the show are flawed by design, Claire is the standard irreversibly shrill sitcom wife surrounded by otherwise transgressive characters. Even when she does redeem herself by letting her husband win a foot race, or begrudgingly jumping into a pool with her clothes on to satisfy the stepmother she called a gold-digger, she’s still a joyless, shrew of a woman, and that’s a damn shame.

The difference between her character’s flaws and the rest of the cast’s is that not only is there nothing endearing about her, she isn’t trusted with the funny either. Her husband is a lecherous idiot who screws up constantly, but he’s an undeniably lovable lecherous idiot, and he gets the best lines on the show. Her father is a bit backwards in his thinking, but he strives to evolve, has a dog butler, and the scene where he spared little Manny from knowing what a jerk his deadbeat dad was would forgive him almost any insensitive remark he could ever make. And Cam is an over-the-top gay stereotype who should probably offend more than he does, but c’mon, you can’t not love that bleeding heart of an impromptu Lion King musical stager. But when pressed to come up with Claire’s good points, I really can’t come up with any. If she’s not humorlessly yelling, nagging, fretting, or complaining, she’s, well, off-screen.
