Pick up: ‘Modern Family’

Metromix has ranked all the new fall shows and the verdict for Modern Family is “Pick up”. Here is what they have to say about Modern Family:
Premiere ratings: 12.7 million viewers, 8.0/13 overall
Most recent ratings: 9.99 million viewers, 3.8/10 overall
In plain English: “Modern Family” had a surprisingly strong start, and has continued on that track in its following weeks.

None of ABC’s attempts at comedy this fall are going over quite as well as “Modern Family.” The mockumentary-style sitcom about a dysfunctional clan is one Liza Minnelli cameo shy of a well-deserved “Arrested Development” comparison. Cancellation would be a crime.

‘Modern Family’ – Cameron (Eric Stonestreet)

One of the best surprises of “Modern Family” is Eric Stonestreet (see IMDb profile), who plays Cameron. The guy is so funny…

Eric just did an interview for Variety in which he said about himself: “I always say I’m the straight version of Cameron,” Stonestreet says. “I’m a little bit flamboyant myself and have a flair for the dramatic. Who says those are bad things? I think they have their place. Cameron doesn’t let moments pass. He is a celebrator of life and people.”

KansasCity ran an article about Eric, who is from Kansas. In the interview Eric said about the audition: “It was the audition every actor wanted, and I know they saw a tremendous number of people,”  – we are so glad he got the part.

The Top Five Hits of the Fall TV Season

October 2, 2009 by · 1 Comment

Newsweek calls “Modern Family” : “the funniest new comedy of the season”. Newsweek ranked the top 5 hits of the TV season and here they are:
No. 5: FlashForward (ABC)
No. 4: Modern Family (ABC)
No. 2 (Tie): Cougar Town (ABC) and NCIS: Los Angeles (CBS)
No. 1: The Cleveland Show

Here is their take on “Modern Family”:

Another winner from ABC built on an effective campaign, but this was a much easier sell than FlashForward, simply because it’s the funniest new comedy of the season. The early buzz and reviews for this family mockumentary were almost unanimously enthusiastic. All that was required was to get to viewers to wonder if the show could possibly be as funny as those persnickety critics were saying it was. Fortunately, it is just that funny. And given that the second episode packs more laughs than the pilot (a rarity), Modern Family has room to grow.

Modern Family Episode 2 Ratings are in

Zap2it reports the rating for Wednesday:
Wednesday night’s ratings were significantly cooler than during premiere week, with pretty much every new show and several returning ones falling from their premieres. ABC’s “Modern Family” and “Cougar Town” still posted solid demographic ratings, though, and CBS’ crime dramas led the network to an overall win for the night. One exception to the downward trend was “Glee,” which actually built its audience over last week.

9 p.m.

CBS: “Criminal Minds” (13.6 million, 8.6/14)
ABC: “Modern Family” (9.9 million, 6.0/10)/”Cougar Town” (9.1 million, 5.7/9)
NBC: “Law & Order: SVU” (7.9 million, 5.3/8)
FOX: “Glee” (7.3 million, 4.4/7)
The CW: “Melrose Place” rerun (1.1 million, 0.8/1)

18-49 leader: “Modern Family” (3.7) – Yeah!!!

E!Online has an interview with Ty Burrell, otherwise known as ultracool, hipster dad Phil on ABC’s new hit “Modern Family”.
Ty on Phil: “Phil is a dog who can talk. He’s this well-intentioned guy, superearnest. His tail is always wagging when anyone comes home as if he thought they were never going to come back. And yet at the same time, that tail is knocking crap off the tables, you know?”

Is Superman here illegally? Modern Family Episode 2

It was a great 2nd episode for “Modern Family”, with a superhero theme: a joke about Superman and Batman.
We also loved the quote — “90% of being a dad is just showing up”.

What was your favorite moment?

Modern Family Episode 2

Episode synopsis [from TV.com]: As Phil helps his son in showing Claire that he can be trusted with a brand new bike, Phil turns out to be the irresponsible one when he notices a hot neighbor. Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron bring Lily to their Mommy & Me class while Manny and Jay uncomfortably spend some father and son time together.
