Ed O’Neill Finds ‘Modern Family’ Gay Kiss Controversy ‘Half Amusing, Half Annoying’
O’Neill, who plays Mitchell and Claire’s father, Jay, addressed the controversy in an interview with PopEater. Calling from his Los Angeles home, he said he finds the complaint “half amusing, half annoying.” He noted that we haven’t seen Jay and his sexy young wife, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) kiss either. And, after 20 years of appearances in controversial comedies, O’Neill said that he sees such protests as just another form of show business, not to be taken seriously.
What do you think of the protests over Cameron and Mitchell’s muted displays of affection?
Oh, that’s so stupid. Who cares? When I hear that, it’s half amusing, half annoying. First of all, they’re the most conservative family of the three. Mitchell is a lawyer, and Cameron is a stay-at-home mom with a baby.

Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara: “happy and in love”
Sofía, the 37-year-old mother of a teenager, is head-over-heels for handsome one-time film producer Nick Loeb, 34, whom she met at a Golden Globe party in LA in January. “They are so happy and in love,” the friend says of the actress and her new businessman beau. The couple looked cozy while dining with his family and friends in New York on May 19.

Sofia Vergara Joins Smurfs
Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara has been cast in the upcoming animated/live-action The Smurfs. She will play Odile, a “powerful executive at a high-end French cosmetics company” married to Neil Patrick Harris’ character. The film, which also stars Jayma Mays (Glee) and Hank Azaria, will begin filming in New York next week. With each awesome actor that gets added to this cast, our frustration that this movie is about blue cartoon Smurfs mounts.

Could You See Sophia Loren on ‘Modern Family’?

TV Squad asked Sofia Vergara who should play her character’s mom, and she chose legendary Italian actress Sophia Loren.
The 75-year-old Loren does bear some physical resemblance to Vergara, and she does have comic chops (Vergara cites Loren’s work in Marcello Mastroianni films). She also has recent experience playing a mother – her own mother, at that, in an Italian television biopic based her sister’s book, according to the Times of India.

The cast are filming the first season’s last episode, which sees the whole clan descend on the Four Seasons Maui Resort.
The plot centres around an intimate birthday vacation in that family patriarch Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O’Neill, plans with his wife, Sofia Vergara’s Gloria.
‘Jay thinks that he and Gloria are going by themselves for this romantic getaway,’ executive producer Steve Levitan told America’s Entertainment Weekly.
‘And she surprises him by inviting the entire family.’

Colombian actress Sofia Vergara turns Happy Feet penguin
Eric Stonestreet is not going to be the only one on movies this year: Colombian actress and model Sofia Vergara, from “Modern Family”, will be working alongside big-screen superstar Robin Williams in a follow-up to Warner Brothers animated penguin movie Happy Feet. She is going to be the voice of the wife of a tap-dancing penguin in the animated film Happy Feet 2. As well as funny-man Williams, Vergara will also be working alongside big names such as Elijah Wood and Hank Azaria.
The film is set to be released in November 2011.
