Emmy Gets New Challengers in ‘Glee’ and ‘Modern Family’ By BRIAN STELTER

Three of the standout comedies of the past television season, “Glee,” “Modern Family” and “Nurse Jackie,” will challenge the reigning champ “30 Rock” in the prime-time Emmys this year.

“Modern Family,” the family ensemble on ABC, which received 14 nominations, and “Nurse Jackie,” the Showtime series starring Edie Falco, which received eight, were also nominated for best comedy, joining “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “The Office” and “30 Rock.” Five “Modern Family” cast members were nominated as best supporting actors: Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, and Ty Burrell.

’30 Rock,’ ‘Glee’ and ‘Modern Family’ top Emmy experts’ Buzzmeter

With one week to go until nominations for the 62nd Emmy Awards are announced, six top TV pundits have come out swinging with their views on who will reap bids next Thursday morning.

They agree that reigning three-time champ “30 Rock” will once again contend for best comedy series. Also certain to make the ballot are two freshman laffers — “Glee” and “Modern Family.” Four of us think “Curb Your Enthusiasm” will earn a sixth bid for this elusive prize and that “The Big Bang Theory” will land its first nomination.

Writers Guild Sings Praises of Glee, Modern Family and All the Other Usual Suspects

Smack in the middle of the self-congratulatory lovefest that is awards season, Hollywood’s word-processing set has released its own would-be honorees, announcing the TV nominees for the 2010 Writers Guild of America Awards.
While the usual suspect contenders—Lost, House, 30 Rock, Mad Men, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dexter and The Office—all once again scored nominations, the networks that risked taking their programming in some New Directions (yeah, we said it) did not go unrewarded.
ABC’s Modern Family and Fox’s Glee both scored multiple nods in their freshman year, not only as Best New Series but with a pair of nominations for top Comedy Series—which, lest we forget, is no vanity, thanks-for-playing nod.

The winners will be announced Feb. 20.
