Who Needs Obama? We’ve Got Eric and Jane!

E! went to the stars of Modern Family and Glee to see if they think their TV shows are doing anything to shape society’s viewpoints of the LGBTQ community, or if it’s purely entertainment.
Here is what Eric said:

“I think [our show] is a great opportunity to educate people. Our goal is to make people laugh, for sure, but while we’re making people laugh, we want to open their minds that two men can raise a baby and give it love, a future and a life. That’s icing on the cake for the show and the role. We just hope people like what we do.”

Kevin Bacon is coming to Modern Family, at least according to E! :

“Kevin Bacon just agreed to come on our show!” Modern Family star Jesse Ferguson (Mitchell) told E! at last night’s Golden Globes. “I just met him and I said, ‘Come on our show,” and he said, ‘I’m comin!’ So I’m personally casting him as a guest star. We’re going to have Judy Greer, Minnie Driver and then Kevin Bacon.”

Of course, Modern boss Steven Levitan and the ABC mucky-mucks will have to sign off on the whole thing, but really, minor detail, right? And Julie Bowen has already plotted out the whole hot and heavy storyline…

“Are you kidding me?!” Julie (Claire) gasped when E! mentioned her costar’s possible Kevin Bacon casting coup. “There will have to be flashbacks to Claire’s past. He can be her ex-boyfriend and we can make out. I want the flashback to where we really get hot and heavy and dance to Footloose. I remember the dance in the warehouse. I remember every minute of that movie.”

“Glee” Tops Golden Globes

2 new kids to the class “Glee” and “Modern Family” were the most talked about shows in the Best Series: Comedy or Musical category. It was slightly uncommon to see 2 brand new shows midway into their first season nominated but the strength of both shows were undeniable.
“Glee” had indeed won the award and an ecstatic cast led by their captain Ryan Murphy received the award with class and gratefulness.

Congrats to Glee and good luck to Modern Family next time.

For the fourth year running, the ABC television network leads nominees for media awards from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

The network earned eight nominations Wednesday for the 21st annual GLAAD Media Awards, with “Brothers & Sisters,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice” and newcomer “Modern Family” among its contenders.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor the fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives in the media. This year’s awards – with 152 nominees in 32 categories – will be split into three ceremonies, held in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco in March, April and June.

“Words and images matter,” GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios said in a statement. “With these awards, we seek to recognize news coverage and entertainment programming that go beyond stock stereotypes with LGBT storylines that more fully reflect the challenges gay and transgender people face and the aspirations we hold for ourselves and our families.”

ABC received the following nominations:

- “Brothers & Sisters” and “Grey’s Anatomy” for drama series

- “Modern Family” for comedy series

- “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” for daily drama

- A “Good Morning America” interview with Chaz Bono for TV journalism segment

- Two nominations for “Private Practice” for individual TV episode

Modern Family’s outstanding guest star line-up just added a new name: Judy Greer is joining the funniest family on TV for on episode.
The actress has previously guest-starred on House and Arrested Development and even anchored ABC’s short-lived 2008 sitcom Miss Guided.

Greer will portray Denise, an ex-girlfriend of family man Phil that reconnects with him on (what else?) Facebook. Despite Claire’s initial hesitation, she’s invited over for dinner to meet the Dunphys.
