For Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet, the Emmy nominations announcement was all about managing expectations.

“I made myself stay up until about 2 a.m. hoping it would allow me to sleep through a non-phone call or allow me to be woken up by a phone call” after the pre-6 a.m. announcement in California. “That was my approach and it worked.”

“I’m bummed Ed (O’Neill)’s not in there,” he says. “It’s bittersweet because none of this really works without one another.”

As much as I enjoyed the first season of this show, I didn't think five actors deserved emmy nominations, that was way too much. And they left one of the guys I liked the most without one!
Modern Family is successful in showing us exactly that, what a family is today, but with a very interesting twist (everyone knows each other) and recreates funny situations with very good characters, each one different from the rest, but all conscious of that and willing to accept the other.
Julie Bowen, Ed O'Neill and Ty Burell were the ones that stood out for me. Maybe the right nomination for this series was for best ensemble cast for a comedy series.
