Sarah Hyland has been keeping a pretty big secret for a very long time: The 21-year-old “Modern Family” actress has grappled with kidney disease since she was in single digits.

The good news? In April she got a kidney transplant, and now she’s sharing her story, via Seventeen and “Good Morning America.”

“My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney!” she told Seventeen, which features her on its June/July cover.

EW reports that Tom Cavanagh and Steve Carell might head to Modern Family as Phil’s siblings.

As a presenter at the Golden Globe Awards, Modern Family star Sofia Vergara was stunning in a Carolina Herrera gown and Chopard diamonds, her long hair gathered back and half up because of the soggy weather.

“I didn’t want to wear my hair up, but it started raining and it’s better to wear it up and look fixed the whole night than have it look good for ten minutes,” she explained the following morning on the Modern Family set, where she talked about the thrill of attending her first Golden Globes and meeting A-Listers like Sophia Loren.

Modern Family returns on January 6 with a brand-new episode called “Up All Night.”
The comedy opens 2010 with guest star Benjamin Bratt of Law & Order fame, who plays Manny’s father Javier Delgado. After he arrives in town, Manny begins to stay up all night, which causes his mother Gloria much grief when she realizes what’s going on.
