Sarah Hyland has been keeping a pretty big secret for a very long time: The 21-year-old “Modern Family” actress has grappled with kidney disease since she was in single digits.

The good news? In April she got a kidney transplant, and now she’s sharing her story, via Seventeen and “Good Morning America.”

“My dad gave me a freakin’ kidney!” she told Seventeen, which features her on its June/July cover.

According to Sofia Vergara, she uses her mother as inspiration for her role as Gloria on ‘Modern Family.’Channeling her mom helps ensure the role is authentic in terms of how a Colombian woman would react to such situations, Vergara said on ‘Good Morning America’(weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC).
