Until the last episode it wasn't so bad. But the dressing up the poor baby like divas and acting a mess like that was nothing short of blackface. they were actually grotesque in that episode. Very bad indeed.

They are as stereotypical as Gloria is as a fiery Latina and Claire is as an uptight suburban mom, and Jay is as an emotionally repressed senior dad. There are truths to most stereotypes, and they make characters meaningful and recognizable. What keeps them from being negative is how they grow and interact with each other, which is a large part of the immense charm of Modern Family.
