A HAPPY COINCIDENCE ON PHIL’S BIRTHDAY TURNS SOUR ON ABC’S “MODERN FAMILY”

“Game Changer” – It could not be more perfect that Phil’s birthday and the release date of a hot new product coincide, and he wants nothing so much as to be one of the first people to get one; this is Claire’s mission. Meanwhile, before coming to Phil’s party, Mitchell is preoccupied with a new found desire to toughen up, Cameron gets himself involved in a neighbor’s marital problems, and it’s Jay against Gloria and Manny in chess, on “Modern Family,” WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31 (9:00-9:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

The NY Post has an interview with Eric Stonestreet, Cam from Modern Family. In the interview he talks about the women of NY city, admiring what he calls their “directness” and “honesty.”, and stating:
“I’m single and I’m available,” he announces.
“Maybe The Post could find me the lady of my dreams. I’d be happy to be bicoastal. That’s bi-coastal, not bisexual!”

He also talked about his partner on the show, Ferguson:
“He’s gay and I’m straight and we have fun with that,” Stonestreet says. “After I got the part, we decided to meet for coffee and get to know each other. In the middle of it, we realized it was Valentine’s Day and we were surrounded by lovers! That was a funny way to start off.”

A quartet of showrunners agreed Wednesday during a Hollywood Radio & TV Society panel that the biz is experiencing a renaissance of sorts as such innovative new hits as Fox’s “Glee” and ABC’s “Modern Family” creatively refresh the industry.

“It was over — the sitcoms were disappearing,” “Mad Men” creator Matthew Weiner said. “Everything was being replaced with news magazines, there was all this terror about the marketplace … and here it is, coming back. It’s a good time to be watching TV.”

Weiner spoke during HRTS’ annual gathering of top writer-producers, joined by Steve Levitan (“Family”), Carter Bays (CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother”) and Ryan Murphy (“Glee”).

“All of us are in a shock that it did work,” Murphy said of “Glee,” which he said tested “in the middle” among Fox’s focus group. “Kevin Reilly and Peter Liguori said, ‘This is a bizarre show, but we really want to keep thinking outside the box because that’s what we think is going to be a big hit on network television now, not just the same old procedurals.’ ”
