ABC is giving us not one, but two new episodes of Modern Family to kick off its third season later this month and today, the network released two photos to tease the episodes. One of them is so scenic, it barely looks like a photo from the show.

The people of Peru are not happy with a joke that was featured on this week’s episode of Modern Family, reports The Associated Press.

The controversy stems from Sofia Vergara‘s character, Gloria, who responds to her husband’s quip about Colombia with her own insult.  “Ah, here we go,” Gloria begins to respond. “Because, in Colombia, we trip over goats and we kill people in the street. Do you know how offensive that is? Like we’re Peruvians!”

Shortly after the episode aired, Vegara, who like her character is also a native of Colombia, received a large volume of insulting tweets, according to the wire service, with some demanding an explanation for the line.

When last we saw the Dunphy-Pritchett clan, Claire was driving her family to the brink of civil war over a family portrait. Claire’s need for control is often at odds with her mile-wide sentimental streak. This time around, Claire’s contradictory emotions are provoked by the ancient, wood-paneled station wagon that’s been sitting in the garage for decades. At first, she wants it out of the house, pronto, but once they begin excavating it from its resting place, the emotions come rushing back. It’s irrational, but she’s attached to the old beater–if she can keep it around a bit longer, then maybe her kids won’t grow up.

Another thing that’s always funny, if a tad dangerous? Clumsy people wielding power tools. This week, Mitchell and Cameron set out to make a princess castle for Lily. Mitchell’s excited to relive his glory days as a set-maker for his college theater troupe. Cameron, on the other hand, is petrified. And with good reason: With power tools in hand, Mitchell’s like a bearded, friendlier version of Jason Voorhees, decapitating rose bushes like so many camp counselors. Cameron enlists Jay to help construct the castle, hoping the two of them can keep Mitchell busy with other projects, like organizing bolts. (“But there are only six of them,” Mitchell complains). Mitchell sniffs out the conspiracy pretty quickly, and, in an act of protest, finishes the project himself. Too bad he also locks himself into the castle. “There’s a little bit of me in that princess castle,” Mitchell explains at the beginning of the episode.

The Dunphy-Pritchett clan returned from their Hawaiian adventure last night, ready to wrap up the end of an impeccable first season with a family portrait. Not surprisingly, what should be a simple picture becomes a much more complicated ordeal for our favorite borderline-OCD Claire. She attempts to wrangle the whole family together, only to encounter one mishap after the next—the perpetually broken step, Phil’s ill-fitting white pants, a brother afraid of a pigeon, and a husband who kisses her young stepmother. Modern Family went out with a bang but didn’t forget to leave us with some lessons to mull over:

There’s nothing wrong with bringing your own snacks. Sneaking some sodas into your bag into the movie theaters is one thing, but Phil takes it to another level, demonstrating that smuggling treats into a sports event can be an art.

This week’s Modern Family found the whole crew in the island paradise of Hawaii for Jay’s 63rd birthday celebration. While last week’s episode revealed Jay’s hesitations about his entire family infiltrating his relaxing vacation with Gloria, we see now that the one struggling to relax is Jay himself. After being reminded by his brother that their father passed away at this particular birthday milestone, he ditches the cheeseburgers and throws himself into an endless string of physical activities in an attempt to reverse a lifetime of bad choices.
